Youth Achievement Awards 2008

The 2008 "Youth Achievement Awards" will recognise the young people's service to the Fenland community.

We know that there are many young people in our district who make a valuable contribution to the community in all sorts.

The launch last year was very successful and we are looking at building on its success to make this year even more amazing. Therefore we are asking for people to nominate a young person who they feel has helped to make Fenland an even greater place to live!

To be eligible for an award, you must be aged between 11 and 18 and be nominated by someone else.

The members of the Fenland Youth District Council (YDC) will judge the entries and pick an overall winner.

The YDC, which was formed in 2006, comprises of 14 young people from schools and colleges across the district. They are particularly keen to raise the profile of young people and this is a really excellent way of doing it.

"It is important that the work which young people do in the community is recognised. They make an valuable contribution to helping to improve the lives of people in the area and we should be proud of it", explained Lewis Punter, Chairman of the YDC.

Do you know a young person who has achieved in the arts or sports, for example, or achieved against the odds? If so we would like to hear from you.

How to nominate

To nominate someone for the award, complete the nomination form and then, in no more than 50 words, explain why you are putting this young person forward.

We need to know what they have done and why you think they are worthy of your nomination.

Over the next few weeks we will feature the names of those nominated, by whom and why.

All entries will be judged by the Youth District Council and there will be one overall winner who will receive £100 and a trophy.

The winner and all nominees who are shortlisted will be presented with framed certificates at a special presentation evening later in the year, hosted by the Youth Council.
