The Welwyn & Hatfield Times

ESTABLISHED back in 1928 the Welwyn & Hatfield Times has remained at the centre of its community for almost eight decades.

Indeed the area has been nicknamed by many locals as Times Territory.

It has always been acclaimed for its quality journalism and integrity.

It campaigns about issues which effect the daily lives of people who live in our towns and villages.

The Welwyn & Hatfield Times' commitment to local residents was rewarded in 2006 with the title Newspaper Society Weekly Paid-For Community Newspaper of the Year.

We were highly commended in the campaigning newspaper of the year categotryr of the Newspaper Society Awards in 2007.

The paper is also proud of its support for many local charities.

It played a leading role in launching the Willow Foundation with soccer great Bob Wilson and his wife Megs. The charity, set up in memory of their daughter Anna who died of cancer shortly before her 32nd birthday, provides special days for seriously ill young adults. It went national in 2005 and celebrated its eighth birthday in August 2007.

The paper's editor received an honorary degree from the University of Hertfordshire for his services to Hertfordshire and local newspapers.

Statement from Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps...

Grant Shapps MP said: "In discussing local press with fellow MPs in Parliament, it is immediately clear the Welwyn & Hatfield Times stands out as a newspaper that seeks to not only inform, but also campaign on behalf of people and issues in Welwyn Hatfield.

"I'd go as far as to say that colleagues look at my local paper with some envy."
